Location, Location, Location

Located in the heart of coastal Cape Elizabeth, Maine, one of the most beautiful towns in Maine.  To give you a good idea of the location, watch the video below, which is taken from the roof of the mushroom to give you a 360-degree view of what is near and around The Mushroom. The video was taken in late fall so the leaves from the plentiful oak trees that surround The Mushroom are not in the way.

History

One of the greatest features of The Mushroom is its history. The Mushroom at Two Lights was built in 1910 as a coastal summer getaway. At this time, the most common mode of transportation was the horse and buggy and the occasional Ford Model T. As one of the earliest buildings around, The Mushroom enjoyed uninhibited water views from three sides, since trees had not grown up and there were very few neighbors. You can get a great idea of some of the history of The Mushroom at The Photos Page.

Since those early days, The Mushroom has continued to be a wonderful summer retreat for the descendants and extended family of the original builders. Summer weddings have taken place there, countless lobster feeds, and family and friends from far and near have enjoyed a week of rest and relaxation in the lovely Maine summer.
